Credit notes

A credit note is its own document with its own number — a way to credit a user for a specific amount without editing an existing invoice.

Create one

Go to Customers > Credit notes and select New credit note. Pick the User, the net Price, optionally a Number of your own choosing, an issue date, and a comment.

A new credit note — the number is optional; the tax rate is captured at creation time.

The page's own note matters: the user's tax rate is stored as a snapshot at the moment the credit note is created. If that user's tax rate changes later, this credit note keeps the rate it was made with.

What each field means

FieldMeaning
UserWho the credit note is for.
Price (net)The credited amount before tax; the gross amount is worked out from the user's tax rate.
NumberOptional — leave it blank and the credit note simply has no number, or set your own.
issue_dateDefaults to now if left blank.
commentA free-text note stored on the credit note.

The list

Go to Customers > Credit notes. Each row shows its date, number, user, net and gross amount, and status (here "unpaid"), and can be filtered by user, number or status.

The credit note itself

Click a row to open the credit note's own page: its status, issue date, net/gross amounts, an editable Comment with its own Save comment button, and — while it's still unpaid — Mark as paid and Delete.

Check

After creating one, it should appear immediately at the top of the list with the amount and number you entered.
