System requirements

What to have ready before you run the installer: the server itself, a domain, an installation code, and the network ports Voiplix needs.

The server

RequirementDetail
Operating systemUbuntu 22.04, 24.04 or 26.04 LTS. Other distributions are not supported.
AccessRoot access (installation runs as root; the application itself then runs under its own, unprivileged system user).
MemoryAt least 2 GB RAM. Voiplix compiles the Asterisk telephony engine from source during installation, which needs the memory.
NetworkA public IP address and internet access (to download packages and the Voiplix release itself).

A domain name

You need a domain (or subdomain) that will point at this server, for example billing.yourdomain.com. The installer requests a free HTTPS certificate for it automatically — but only if the domain's DNS A record already points at the server's IP address when the installer reaches that step. If it doesn't yet, the install still finishes; it just leaves HTTPS for a manual follow-up step once DNS has caught up.

Tip

Point the DNS A record at the new server's IP address before you start the installer, or as early as possible during it — DNS changes can take a while to spread, and the certificate step only succeeds once the domain actually resolves to this server.

An installation code

Every install needs an installation code from your Voiplix partner. It is checked online before anything else happens — without a valid code, the installer stops there and nothing is installed.

Network ports

The installer sets up its own firewall and opens exactly the ports Voiplix needs. If your server sits behind another firewall (a hosting provider's, a router's), open the same ones there:

PortUsed for
22/tcpSSH (server administration).
80/tcpHTTP — also needed to issue the HTTPS certificate.
443/tcpHTTPS — the web interface, the customer portal and the API.
5060/udp, 5060/tcpSIP signaling (phones and providers).
5061/tcpSIP over TLS.
5062–5260/udpSIP source ports some providers register from.
8089/tcpSecure WebSocket, for browser-based and app softphones.
10000–20000/udpRTP — the actual call audio.

What the installer sets up for you

You do not need to install any of this yourself — the installer does it all, in order: system packages and a firewall, Node.js, PostgreSQL, the Asterisk telephony engine (built from source — this is the step that takes the longest), and finally the Voiplix application itself, its database and its configuration.

Note

Installation typically takes half an hour to an hour end to end — most of it is Asterisk compiling from source, which cannot be sped up. It needs no attention while it runs.

Check

Before moving on to Installing, make sure you have: an Ubuntu server that meets the table above, a domain with its DNS pointed at the server (or ready to point there shortly), and your installation code.
