PBX functions and External DIDs
Two related screens under PBX. PBX functions lists the feature codes configured on this system — short internal numbers you dial to do something, rather than a phone number someone calls you on. External DIDs gives one of those functions (or an IVR, a queue, a ring group…) an extension and a PBX pool of its own to dial internally.
PBX functions
Reached from PBX > PBX functions. A read-mostly overview: each row is one configured feature code, its type, its extension, and whether resellers can see it.
What each column means
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
Name | What this feature code is called. |
TYPE | Which built-in PBX function it runs. |
extension | The short internal number that reaches it. |
Resellers | Whether resellers can see and use this feature code. |
External DIDs
Reached from PBX > External-DIDs. This is where a PBX function — or an IVR, a queue, a ring group, or a quickforward dial plan — is given its own Name, Extension and PBX pool, so staff and customers can dial it directly rather than only reach it through a DID.
Picking certain Function types reveals extra fields — a currency and language, a target user, or a sound file and IVR block. For that fuller walkthrough, with a real example, see External DIDs (PBX functions) in DIDs & Inbound — this page does not repeat it.
Check
After creating an external DID, confirm its row shows the Name, Function, Extension and PBX pool you chose, and that dialling the extension internally reaches it.
