6. Create a device (SIP account)
How to create the SIP device (extension) that belongs to the user, which a phone or softphone will register as.
A device is a SIP extension — the account a phone or softphone registers with. This step creates one and attaches it to the user from step 5.
Open Devices
In the sidebar, go to Customers > Devices, then select Create device (or open an existing device's General tab). Set the extension number and attach it to your user.
Set a device password
Scroll to Authentication & network. This is where the SIP Secret (the device's password), host mode and transport live — the values your softphone will need in step 7.
What each field means
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
Extension | The number this device dials from and is reached at internally. |
Secret | The SIP password the phone authenticates with — Voiplix generates a random one; you can also set your own. |
Dynamic host (registration) | Checked when the phone registers from a changing address (the normal case for a softphone). |
Port | The SIP port Voiplix expects this device on. |
Transport | The SIP transport — UDP, TCP or TLS. |
Use a strong, random Secret. A weak or guessable device password is one of the most common ways a PBX gets toll fraud — calls placed by someone else, on your account.
Check
The device shows the extension and is linked to your user. Keep the Secret visible (or copy it) — you will enter it in your softphone in the next step.
