Providers in depth
A provider is a carrier trunk — where a call goes out, or comes in from. Past the basics in the Quick Start, each provider has its own connection settings, capacity limits, codec order, caller ID and number-rewrite rules.
The Providers list
In the sidebar, go to Routing > Providers.
The Register column shows — for a provider that does not register (most static IP trunks), or Registered / Rejected once it tries.
General settings, connection, and the live PJSIP preview
Open a provider and select Rules / Cause-Rules / Codecs / Server along the top to reach its other pages — the edit page itself opens on General and Authentication & network.
Connection and capacity
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
Host mode | Hostname, IP, or Dynamic (for a carrier with no fixed address — it registers to you instead). |
Server IP / hostname / Port | Where this carrier's SIP server is — usually port 5060. |
IP authentication | No login/password: the carrier is identified purely by its IP address instead. |
Login / Password | Credentials your carrier gave you, if it requires them. |
Registration active / Registration extension | Whether Voiplix must register with this carrier before it will accept calls, and the account/extension to register as. |
Call limit (0 = unlimited) | The most simultaneous calls this provider will carry at once. |
Ring timeout (min. 30 s) / Call timeout (max. duration, 0 = off) | How long a call may ring before giving up, and a hard cap on how long a connected call may last. |
Further down the Advanced section adds two more capacity controls not shown above: Time limit per day (s) / Time limit per month (s) (a total-minutes cap, resetting on a chosen day of the month), and a calls-per-second throttle — "Limit up to N calls within M seconds (0 = off)".
The panel on the right is the actual Asterisk PJSIP configuration Voiplix will generate from these fields — useful to sanity-check host, port and credentials without leaving the page. Passwords in it are masked once a form is read-only.
Provider CallerID
Scroll (or, on a narrower screen, continue) to Provider CallerID — the caller ID Voiplix puts on calls placed out over this provider.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
CID name / CID number | The caller name and number sent on outgoing calls over this provider. |
Number | Choose this to always send one fixed number. |
Random from number pool | Draw a caller ID from a configured Number Pool instead — with a Selection mode (for example pseudorandom) and a Deviation range controlling how it is spread across the pool. |
Codecs
Select Codecs to set which audio codecs this provider may use, and in what order.
The order of Assigned codecs becomes the PJSIP allow priority for outgoing calls over this provider — the first one Voiplix and the carrier both support wins.
Provider rules — rewriting numbers and CallerID
Select Rules to cut or add digits on the numbers this provider sees, separately for the destination (called number) and source (CallerID).
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
Cut (remove prefix) | Digits stripped from the start of the number. |
Add | Digits added to the start of the number, after cutting. |
Length | Minimum and maximum number length the rule applies to. |
Tariff | Optionally switch to a different tariff for numbers this rule matches. |
Check
Open the provider and confirm the PJSIP preview shows the host, port and credentials you expect, then select SIP test — a working carrier answers with Connection successful.
