Device rule groups

The same cut/add number-manipulation rule a device can carry on its own Rules tab, but defined once and assigned to several devices at a time. Reached under Customers > Device rule groups.

Where Localization groups devices by site and rewrites both directions, a device rule group is a smaller, portable rule set aimed specifically at devices that should share the exact same rewrite without belonging to the same location.

The list

Type a name under Rule group name and click Create group. Each row shows how many rules and how many devices it carries, with Rules and Devices links to manage each.

Device rule groups — "Demo CID Rules" carries one rule and one device.

Adding rules

Open Rules on a group and it splits into Destination rules and Source rules (CallerID) — the same shape as a location's rules, minus the "combined" option and its location-group reference. Each rule has a Name, Cut, Add, Min. length and Max. length, and a source rule also has a Change CallerID name checkbox.

Demo CID Rules — one destination rule, no source rules yet.

These fields work exactly like a localization destination/source rule: Cut removes leading digits, Add prepends replacement digits, and Min./Max. length limits which numbers the rule touches.

Assigning devices

Open Devices on a group to see every device and switch its rule group with the Change rule group dropdown on each row — a device belongs to at most one rule group at a time, so picking a new one here moves it out of any previous group.

Assigning a device to the group via the "Change rule group" dropdown.
Tip

Use a device rule group when the same rewrite belongs on several devices across different customers or locations; use a localization when it belongs to every device at one site, and the site should also inherit any other rules set on that location.

Check

Open the group's Rules page and confirm the rule you added shows active; open Devices and confirm the device you assigned shows this group selected in Change rule group.
