Number pools (CID rotation)

A number pool is a set of phone numbers a device — or a whole provider's failover chain — draws from for outbound caller ID, one at a time, instead of always showing the same number.

Reached under Routing > Number Pools. The list itself and how a pool connects to a DID's blacklist are already covered in DID rates and number pools; this page goes into creating and configuring one.

The Number Pools list — "Demo Pool" has 6 numbers, all usable.

Creating and editing a pool

Click Create pool, or Edit on an existing row. Every pool has a Name and an optional Comment, then a CallerID selection & reputation panel that decides how a number is picked and when it is set aside:

Rotation strategy, reject/cooldown limits and the fallback pool.
FieldMeaning
Number selection inside the poolRandom (default) picks purely at random. Least used and Fewest rejects first favour numbers with the lowest use counter or the fewest rejections, spreading wear evenly instead of hammering the same few numbers.
Skip DIDs in cooldownNumbers currently in cooldown are not drawn — checked by default.
Max. rejects / 24 hHow many outbound rejections in 24 hours push a number into cooldown. 0 means no limit.
Cooldown (hours)How long a number stays out of rotation once it goes into cooldown.
Max. uses / dayMarks an over-used number for the day once this many uses is reached (a mark only, not a block). 0 means no limit.
Fallback poolIf this pool has no usable number left, the call takes one from the fallback pool instead of failing.

Which providers this pool is valid for

Below the rotation settings, Valid for provider ties a pool to one or more carriers. Leave every box unchecked and the pool is valid for all providers; tick specific ones and the cause-routing engine uses this to pick the matching device pool for the provider actually in use on a given attempt — so on failover from one provider to another, the caller ID switches to a pool that is valid for the new provider, rather than reusing a number meant for the old one.

Provider validity, and — below it — everywhere this pool is attached.

The Where this pool is used panel at the bottom of the edit page is worth checking before deleting a pool: a database with no foreign keys means nothing else is cleaned up automatically, and a row marked blocks deletion has to be detached first.

Note

A device picks its caller ID from a pool under its own CID pools tab (see Device settings in depth), matched against the provider actually used on that attempt. Without pool rotation, pools there are tried in priority order; with rotation ("Random number pool from CID pools"), the device switches pools itself once a pool runs low, and priority has no effect.

Adding numbers to a pool

Open Numbers on a pool's row to add, search and manage the numbers inside it. Type a number under Add number and click Add — one at a time — or use Import for a CSV file (header number, one per row; CSV export produces a file in the same format). Each number carries its own Reputation override and a use Counter.

Demo Pool's six numbers — fresh, no reputation override, counter 0.
ColumnMeaning
StatusA red badge means the number is currently blocked or paused (cooldown, quarantine, decommissioned, blocked) and is not drawn; yellow is a warning (over-used or many rejects) but the number is still drawn; a dash is normal.
ReputationAn override you set per number (or in bulk, top right) that applies everywhere this number is used as a caller ID, not only in this one pool.
CounterHow often this number has been drawn. With Random (default) every number is picked purely at random and the counter stays informational; with Least used or Fewest rejects first it steers which numbers are actually candidates.

Check

Open Routing > Number Pools and confirm the pool shows the numbers you added and a healthy Fill level; open its Edit page and confirm Valid for provider matches the carriers you expect a device using this pool to fail over between.
