Prepaid vs. postpaid

Every user is either prepaid (spends a balance) or postpaid (calls on credit and gets billed afterwards). It's a single checkbox — Postpaid (otherwise prepaid) — on the user's own page, but it changes how several other fields behave.

Where it lives

Open Customers > Users, then a user. The Postpaid (otherwise prepaid) checkbox sits in the Master data section, right next to Blocked. Below it, the Finance section has the fields it affects.

The demo user "Demo Company" is prepaid (unchecked) — plain "User" type, EUR.

Prepaid — spends a balance

Left unchecked, the user is prepaid. Its calls deduct from Balance as they happen — a prepaid user with no balance cannot make outbound calls. Balance shows again at the top of the user's page as a large number, with a quick Book balance field to add or remove an amount directly (that field takes a plain number — positive to add, negative to subtract).

The balance card at the top of a user's page — here 9.958 EUR.

Postpaid — calls on credit, then gets billed

Checked, the user is postpaid: calls are not blocked by balance. Three fields only make sense — and only take effect — for postpaid: Credit (with an Unlimited option), Daily credit limit (also with Unlimited), and Minimal charge, which the form greys out for a prepaid user with the hint "Only active for postpaid". Postpaid users are the ones an invoice actually bills for money owed — see Invoices & the invoice run.

What each field means

FieldMeaning
Postpaid (otherwise prepaid)Unchecked = prepaid (spends balance). Checked = postpaid (bills afterwards).
BalancePrepaid: current spendable balance. Once a user exists, this field is locked on the edit page — use Book balance or a manual payment to change it.
Balance min / Balance maxGuard rails a balance is expected to stay within.
CreditPostpaid only: how far the balance may go negative before calls are blocked. "Unlimited" ignores the number.
Daily credit limitPostpaid only: a separate cap on how much a user may run up in one day.
Minimal chargePostpaid only (greyed out otherwise): a floor amount applied regardless of actual usage.
Max. call rateA per-minute price ceiling for this user's calls, independent of prepaid/postpaid.
CurrencyThe currency this user's balance, calls and invoices are priced in.
Tip

Both prepaid and postpaid users get invoices from the invoice run. For a prepaid user, the invoice is mainly a paper record of what a period's calls cost — the money was already taken from the balance call by call. For a postpaid user, the invoice is the actual bill: nothing was deducted before it, so the invoice amount is what's owed.

Check

Open a user and read the checkbox: unchecked with a visible Balance above zero is a working prepaid account; checked with a sensible Credit or Daily credit limit is a working postpaid account.
