What a DID is
A DID is a phone number your customers can be called on. This page covers the DID list — its columns, filters and the five statuses every number moves through.
"DID" stands for Direct Inward Dialing — in plain terms, a phone number that can receive incoming calls. Every DID in Voiplix belongs to a provider (the carrier it arrives from), and points to either a device (rings a phone directly) or a callflow (an IVR, queue, ring group or quickforward — see Inbound routing and callflows). Until it points to one of those, calling it does not reach anyone.
The DIDs list
In the sidebar, go to Routing > DIDs. Every number in the system is listed with its status, provider, current owner/device, language, concurrent-call limit and outbound reputation.
The six small cards above the table (Total / Free / Active / Reserved / Closed / Terminated) always count every DID in the system, even while the table below is filtered — do not read them as "how many of the filtered rows". Use the filter row to narrow the table itself: by DID number, owner, device, status, language or provider, and a checkbox to hide terminated numbers.
The CSV export button exports exactly the filtered set. CSV import, Bulk management and Create DID only appear if your role can change DIDs (see Adding DIDs); a read-only role sees the list but no "Create DID" button and an Edit link that opens the DID as View instead.
The five statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
free | Not assigned to anyone. Available to reserve or assign. |
reserved | Tied to a customer, but not yet pointed at one of their devices — the in-between step. An incoming call to a reserved-only number does not ring anywhere yet. |
active | Assigned to a device (or a callflow) and live — this is the status that actually routes calls. |
closed | Taken out of use but kept in the system (its history, rates and comment stay). |
terminated | Given up for good. The "hide terminated" checkbox on the list is on by default in spirit — tick it to declutter a long list. |
A number moves between these with the buttons on its own detail page — see Assigning a DID for the reserve → assign workflow. Opening a single DID (click its number, or Edit) shows its full settings on the left and its outbound caller ID on the right:
What each Settings field means
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
DID number | The number itself, digits only. |
Provider | The carrier this number arrives from. |
Language | Channel language code for this call (e.g. en) — used for spoken prompts. |
Tonezone | Regional ring/busy tone for the call. |
Concurrent calls (0 = unlimited) | How many simultaneous inbound calls this DID accepts. |
Max. call duration (s, 0 = unlimited) | Hard cap on a single call's length. |
CID name prefix | Text prepended to the caller-name shown to the called party. |
PIN (digits only) | Optional PIN callers must enter before the call continues (used together with the PIN retry/failure fields further down). |
Comment | Free-text note, admin-only. |
Below the fold, a "Sound / MOH / PIN IVR / custom SIP header" section holds more specialised, less commonly used settings: a sound file to play before or instead of the call, music-on-hold, PIN attempts and what happens on PIN failure, a blacklist source number pool (see DID rates and number pools), a custom SIP header, and grace/T-digit/T-response timers. Leave these at their defaults unless you specifically need them.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
Sound mode | Whether the chosen sound file plays before the call connects or instead of the call. |
PIN attempts | How many tries a caller gets to enter the PIN set above before PIN failure IVR takes over. |
Grace time / T-digit / T-response | Dialplan timers (seconds) for the PIN prompt: pause before it starts, time allowed between digits, and time allowed before the first digit. |
A reseller sees a smaller version of this page: only a reseller comment field, and no status, callflow, rates or tariff panels — those stay with the operator.
Scrolling down shows Status & assignment, with the status badge in its corner:
Check
Open Routing > DIDs and confirm you can see the status of a number at a glance, and that the totals in the six cards match what you expect for the whole system, not just the filtered rows.
