Advanced routing
Four screens under Routing and Customers that go beyond a basic setup: rotating caller ID across a pool of numbers, deciding what happens on a specific hangup cause, rewriting dialled and caller numbers per location, and reusable number-manipulation rule sets for devices.
The essentials — tariffs, providers, LCR — are covered in Tariffs, Providers & Routing; read that first if the words "tariff", "LCR" or "provider" are new. This section assumes that vocabulary and goes into four screens that basic setup does not need.
The four pages
- 1Number pools (CID rotation)
- 2Cause-based routing and failover
- 3Localization and location groups
- 4Device rule groups
When to use which
| Question | Page |
|---|---|
| "I want outbound calls to show a different caller ID each time, from a set of numbers" | Number pools |
| "A provider keeps returning busy/congestion for some calls — I want it to try another provider or another caller ID automatically" | Cause-based routing |
| "Devices at this site dial numbers starting with a trunk prefix — I want it stripped and the country code added automatically" | Localization |
| "I have the same number-rewriting rule and want to apply it to several devices at once, without repeating it on each one" | Device rule groups |
Note
Provider rewrite rules (cut/add on a specific provider) and the LCR failover order between several providers are already covered in Providers in depth and LCR: routing strategy and failover — this section does not repeat them.
